Poly-Spandex Single Jersey 200 GSM (160 cm)

Poly-Spandex Single Jersey 200 GSM — 160 cm

A 200 GSM single jersey on a 160 cm width, knitted from 95% polyester / 5% spandex. The face is plain: one smooth wale after another, no eyelets and no tuck structure, so what you see is the cloth itself rather than a pattern. That is the point of this quality — it is the base cloth for the garments that sit against the skin.

At 200 GSM it has enough body to hang straight on a dress or a pair of wide-leg trousers, and enough stretch to pull a fitted tee or a base layer over the shoulders without strain. It takes colour deeply, prints cleanly and holds its shade through repeated washing, which is why the same quality turns up in loungewear, kids’ wear and uniform tees as well as in activewear.

A plain face, and why that is the selling point

Comfort in a base layer comes from two things: how the cloth meets the skin, and whether it stays where you put it. A plain single jersey with spandex in the yarn gives you both. The wale is fine and even, so there is no texture to rub and nothing to print through; the spandex is knitted in rather than added as a finish, so the cloth returns to its shape after it stretches instead of growing at the elbow, the knee or the collar.

It also prints better than an open structure. Sublimation, digital print, screen print and embroidery all land on a continuous surface, so fine lines and small type stay sharp. If you want the eyelet version of the same idea — holes knitted in for airflow at a lighter weight — we make that too as a separate quality, and it is quoted on its own page. They are not substitutes: one is smooth, one is perforated.

Colour, quoted by number

Our stock card runs to 96 shades. Pick the numbers you are choosing between and we dye this base to them; if what you need is not on the card, send a Pantone reference or a physical swatch. Quote the number — No.041, not “the royal blue” — so nothing is misread between your buying office and our dye house. Ask for the card with your enquiry and we send it, together with a lab dip of your shortlisted shades on this base cloth. MOQ is 300 kg per shade.

On a smooth face the shade reads true: there is no pile and no shadow between stitches to lift or flatten the tone, so what the lab dip shows is what the roll delivers.

What a kilo buys you

At 200 GSM on a 160 cm width one kilo gives about 3.1 running metres, so the 300 kg minimum is roughly 940 metres — around 720 tee or base-layer bodies at 1.3 m each. That is US$ 3.88 per running metre and US$ 2.43 per m². The 160 cm width is the practical one for cut-and-sew tees: two fronts or a front and a back fit side by side with a normal marker allowance, which is where the saving actually shows up against a 150 cm roll.

Where it goes

T-shirts and long-sleeve tops, base layers and thermal first layers, dresses and skirts, loungewear and sleepwear, kids’ wear, light leggings and sports tops, and the smooth side of workwear uniforms. It takes a reactive or a disperse print, a silicone or a puff print, and an embroidery at 8–10 stitches per cm without the ground showing through. Where it is not the right cloth: anything needing a firm compression hold, a brushed back, or a matte cotton hand — those are different constructions and we quote them separately.

Two things to be clear about. Spandex is the fibre, not a brand — we do not print elastane trademarks on the selvedge. And the yarn count is quoted on request rather than fixed: send the count you run and we knit to it. The composition here is 95% polyester / 5% spandex; if your spec asks for 100% polyester with no stretch, or for a cotton-rich hand, tell us, because the hand and the recovery are not interchangeable.
