Sorona Single Jersey 165 GSM (175 cm)

Fabrics / Cotton & rayon · Single jersey

Sorona Single Jersey 165 GSM, 175 cm

A single jersey in 50% polyester and 50% Sorona, 165 GSM (160–170) on a 175 cm width. Sorona is a bio-based, partially plant-derived polymer: it takes a soft, springy hand and a gentle shape recovery that polyester alone does not give. The cloth is the soft, easy-care end of the jersey range — a tee cloth, a casual top, a lightweight dress.

CustomizationAvailable — shade, weight and width confirmed at quotation. Sorona dyes at a lower temperature than polyester, so a made-to-match is a touch gentler on the environment than a full poly dye.
Knitting technicsA single jersey knit. Smooth and light on the face, loop structure on the back, the natural give of a tee. There is no spandex — the recovery comes from the Sorona polymer’s own springiness, which is why the hand is softer than a plain poly jersey.
Composition50% polyester, 50% Sorona. Sorona (a PTT polymer made partly from plant feedstock) gives the soft hand and the gentle shape recovery; polyester gives the strength and the colour fastness that keep the cloth going through washing.
YarnPolyester and Sorona spun together; counts are set at order.

Weight165 GSM / 4.9 oz/yd². A standard jersey weight — the versatile middle of the range, a tee or a top, a lightweight dress.
Width175 cm / 69 inch. A wide jersey width; the check / stripe would register across it if added.
ColourStock shades quoted by number (No.001–No.096), or dyed to match a swatch you supply. The quality is shown in an ivory; send the shade and we match it, not the chip.
HandSoft and a little springy from the Sorona; smoother and less plastic than a pure-polyester jersey, with a gentle recovery that lets a hem or a neckline relax back.
Stretch & recoveryThe knit’s own give, roughly 30–40% across the width, with a soft recovery from the Sorona — not a power stretch, but more bounce-back than a plain polyester jersey offers.
ShrinkageMinimal — under 3% — because polyester and Sorona are both heat-set synthetics.
PillingGrade 4. Polyester-based jerseys pill less than a rayon or cotton, and the Sorona share wears as a surface, not a ball.
FastnessExcellent wash and light fastness — the standard argument for a synthetic programme that gets washed hard, and Sorona dyes at a lower temperature than polyester.
Making upA ball-point or jersey needle, a light tension; a straight stitch is fine, no stretch to fight.
CuttingLays and cuts like any jersey; a sharp blade, mark the grain off the wales.
PressingMedium-high is fine — synthetics take heat; press on the reverse or through a cloth to keep the face smooth.
AbrasionGood. The synthetic face is the durable choice for a everyday tee or top.

Sorona is the soft, bio-based half

Sorona is a polymer made partly from plant feedstock, and in a jersey it does something polyester alone cannot: it gives the cloth a soft, springy hand and a gentle shape recovery. So the 50/50 here is not a filler — it is the reason this jersey feels softer and bounces back more than a plain poly tee, and the reason it dyes at a lower temperature than full polyester.

For a buyer the practical read is simple: this is the easy-care jersey that still feels like a natural fibre. It is the cloth for a casual top or a lightweight dress where you want the soft hand without the fuss of a cellulosic’s care.

50/50 with polyester

The polyester half is the quiet workhorse: it carries the strength and the colour fastness so the cloth survives a hard-wash programme, and it keeps the cost sane. The Sorona half is the hand and the recovery. Together they make a jersey that is soft but not fragile, easy care but not plastic.

The honest limit is that there is no spandex, so the stretch is the knit’s own with a soft Sorona recovery — gentle, not a compressive hold. Spec it for casual tops, tees and lightweight dresses, not for anything that needs to grip.

165 GSM is a standard jersey weight

One hundred and sixty-five GSM is the versatile middle of the jersey range — heavier than a fashion tee, light enough to layer, substantial enough to be a finished top on its own. With the soft Sorona hand it reads as a premium casual cloth rather than a basic.

And the 175 cm width is generous for a jersey, so the marker lays efficiently — you get more bodies across the width than you would on a 145 cm shirting. Spec it where both the hand and the width matter.

Three things that go wrong on a Sorona jersey. Stretch: no spandex, so the stretch is the knit’s own with a soft recovery — not a compressive hold. Shade: match the ivory to your trim, not to a chip. Care: easy — cool-to-warm wash, that is the Sorona point.
