Sorona Eyelet Mesh 170 GSM, 185 cm

An eyelet mesh knit in 50% polyester and 50% Sorona, 170 GSM on a 185 cm width. The “eyelet” is an open knit structure — small holes knitted into the cloth, not punched — so air moves through it. Sorona gives the soft, springy hand and the gentle shape recovery that polyester alone does not. It is the breathable, easy-care end of the range: a sports top, a layering piece, a mesh panel cloth.

CustomizationAvailable — shade, eyelet scale and width confirmed at quotation. Sorona dyes at a lower temperature than polyester, so a made-to-match is a touch gentler on the environment than a full poly dye.
Knitting technicsAn eyelet mesh knit. The holes are knitted in on the machine, not punched after, so the structure is stable and will not run or ladder. The cloth is a weft-knit mesh — open and airy on the face, with the 50/50 poly/Sorona yarn giving body and a soft hand. There is no spandex; the recovery is the Sorona polymer’s own springiness.
Composition50% polyester, 50% Sorona. Sorona (a PTT polymer made partly from plant feedstock) gives the soft hand and the gentle shape recovery; polyester gives the strength and the colour fastness that keep the cloth going through washing.
YarnPolyester and Sorona spun together; counts are set at order.

Weight170 GSM / 5.0 oz/yd². A mesh weight — open and light in feel, substantial enough to be a finished top.
Width185 cm / 73 inch. The widest jersey width in the range; the mesh and any stripe register across it.
ColourStock shades quoted by number (No.001–No.096), or dyed to match a swatch you supply. The quality is shown in a sage; send the shade and we match it, not the chip.
HandSoft and a little springy from the Sorona; smoother and less plastic than a pure-polyester mesh, with a gentle recovery that lets a hem or a neckline relax back.
BreathabilityThe eyelet holes are the point: air moves through the open knit, so this is a cooler cloth than a solid jersey of the same weight. It is the natural choice for a sports top, a layering piece or a ventilation panel.
Stretch & recoveryThe knit’s own give, roughly 30–40% across the width, with a soft recovery from the Sorona — not a power stretch, but more bounce-back than a plain polyester mesh offers.
ShrinkageMinimal — under 3% — because polyester and Sorona are both heat-set synthetics.
PillingGrade 4. Polyester-based meshes pill less than a rayon or cotton, and the Sorona share wears as a surface, not a ball.
FastnessExcellent wash and light fastness — the standard argument for a synthetic programme that gets washed hard, and Sorona dyes at a lower temperature than polyester.
Making upA ball-point or jersey needle, a light tension; the open structure means a slightly longer stitch length so the seam does not pucker the holes.
CuttingLays and cuts like any knit; a sharp blade, mark the grain off the wales. The 185 cm width lays efficiently.
PressingMedium-high is fine — synthetics take heat; press on the reverse or through a cloth to keep the face smooth and the holes open.
AbrasionGood. The synthetic face is the durable choice for an everyday active top.

Sorona is the soft, bio-based half

Sorona is a polymer made partly from plant feedstock, and in a mesh it does something polyester alone cannot: it gives the cloth a soft, springy hand and a gentle shape recovery. So the 50/50 here is not a filler — it is the reason this mesh feels softer and bounces back more than a plain poly mesh, and the reason it dyes at a lower temperature than full polyester.

For a buyer the practical read is simple: this is the easy-care mesh that still feels like a natural fibre. It is the cloth for an active top or a layering piece where you want the soft hand without the fuss of a cellulosic’s care.

The eyelet is the point

The eyelet structure is an open knit — small holes knitted in, not punched — so it is stable and will not run, and air moves through it. That is what makes this a breathable cloth where a solid jersey of the same weight would trap heat. The mesh reads sporty and light, and it is the reason to pick this over a plain jersey for an active or warm-weather piece.

The honest limit is the mesh one: an open structure is less opaque than a solid cloth, so a lining or a contrast layer is the usual partner. We will flag that at the enquiry rather than let it surprise you.

170 GSM on a 185 cm width

One hundred and seventy GSM is a substantial mesh — open in feel but heavy enough to be a finished top on its own. With the soft Sorona hand it reads as a premium active cloth rather than a cheap net.

And the 185 cm width is the widest in the range, so the marker lays efficiently — you get more bodies across the width than you would on a 158 cm cloth. Spec it where both the breathability and the width matter.

Three things that go wrong on a Sorona eyelet mesh. Open: the eyelet holes make it less opaque than a solid jersey — plan a lining or a contrast layer. Stretch: no spandex, so the stretch is the knit’s own with a soft recovery — not a compressive hold. Width: 185 cm, the widest in the range, so the marker lays efficiently.
