Cationic Single-Sided Brushed Fleece 220 GSM, 170 cm
A single-sided brushed fleece in 95% cationic-dyeable polyester and 5% spandex, 220 GSM on a 170 cm width. The “cationic” is the yarn: this polyester is made to take a cationic dye, which lands a softer, slightly different tone to a regular disperse dye. The face is brushed into a soft pile; the back is the smooth knit ground. It is a loungewear cloth, a soft top, a warm lining.

| Knitting technics | A single-sided brushed fleece in cationic-dyeable polyester. The cloth is a weft knit; after knitting the face is raised and brushed into a soft pile while the back stays the smooth knit ground. The 5% spandex is laid in at the needle and gives the cloth a little recovery so fitted edges relax back. |
| Composition | 95% cationic-dyeable polyester, 5% spandex. The cationic yarn is still polyester — it just takes a different dye — so you get the cheap, colourfast, easy-care polyester point plus the option of a softer two-tone, and the 5% spandex gives a fitted edge a little recovery. |
| Yarn | Cationic-dyeable polyester with a bare spandex laid in; counts are set at order. |

| Weight | 220 GSM / 6.5 oz/yd². A light-to-mid warm weight — light enough to layer, warm enough to read as a cosy cloth. |
| Width | 170 cm / 67 inch. A standard fleece width; the knit registers across it. |
| Colour | Stock shades quoted by number (No.001–No.096), or dyed to match a swatch you supply. Because the yarn is cationic, a two-tone or heather effect is available on request — the beige quality is shown solid. |
| Hand | Soft and warm from the brushed pile; the cationic tone gives a gentle depth; the 5% spandex keeps the edge from bagging. |
| Stretch & recovery | Opens roughly 30–40% across the width from the knit and the 5% spandex; recovery is light-to-moderate. Fine for easy fits, not a compressive hold. |
| Shrinkage | Under 3% — heat-set synthetics. |
| Pilling | Grade 3–4. A brushed pile will surface-fuzz under hard abrasion; overlock the edges. |
| Fastness | Good — cationic dye is a touch more sensitive than disperse, so we set the fastness to a fleece programme rather than a hard-wash industrial one. |
| Making up | A ball-point or jersey needle, a slightly longer stitch so the pile does not trap; overlock the edges — a cut fleece edge will shed pills if left raw. |
| Cutting | Lays and cuts like any fleece; a sharp blade, mark the grain off the wales. The pile has a direction, so lay one-way for an even sheen. |
| Pressing | Do not press the pile — steam it from the back or hang it. A hot shoe on the face flattens the plush and kills the hand. |
| Abrasion | Moderate; the pile is the wear surface and it surface-fuzzes before it holes. Fine for loungewear and soft tops. |

| Yield | ≈ 2.7 running metres per kg at 220 GSM × 170 cm (≈ US$ 5.67 per running metre, ≈ US$ 3.33 per m²). At the 1,000 kg+ price that is ≈ US$ 5.15 per running metre, ≈ US$ 3.03 per m². |
| Lead time | Stock shades ship from the lot on hand; dyeing to match (including a two-tone) adds 7–10 days for the lab dip and your approval, plus bulk. |
| Packing | Roll-packed, about 20 kg per roll, poly bag inside a woven sack. |
| Sample | Hanger swatch and shade card free; a lab dip against your own cloth charged at cost and credited against the bulk order. |
| Documents | Invoice, packing list, B/L, certificate of origin; test reports on request. |
| Care | Machine wash cool to warm, mild detergent, tumble dry low or line dry; do not press the pile. Easy care. |
Cationic dye gives the softer tone
The “cationic” in the name is the dye method: this polyester is made to take a cationic dye, which lands a slightly softer, different tone to the regular disperse dye on the ground. Knit the two together and the cloth can read as a gentle two-tone or heather without needing a second fibre — a depth a plain solid fleece does not have, at no extra fibre cost.
For a buyer the practical read is: you can get a heathered, more “premium” fleece look without moving to a blended yarn. The beige quality here is shown solid; ask and we will strike off a two-tone in your colours.

One side is brushed, the other is a knit
Like the rest of the single-sided range, the face is raised and brushed into a soft pile while the back is left as the smooth knit ground. That is what makes it lighter and cheaper than a double-sided fleece — you get the plush warm hand on the side that shows, and a plain back that sits against a lining or a skin.
The 5% spandex is the quiet upgrade over a plain poly fleece: it gives the cloth a little recovery, so a cuff, a waistband or a neckline opens and then settles instead of permanently stretching. For soft tops and loungewear it is the difference between a cloth that holds its shape and one that bags.

95/5 polyester and spandex
Ninety-five percent cationic polyester with 5% spandex keeps the same value equation as the other fleeces: cheap, colourfast, easy-care polyester plus a little spandex recovery. The only difference is the cationic yarn, which is what earns the two-tone.
The honest limit is the fleece one: a brushed pile surface-fuzzes under hard abrasion and it does not love a hot iron on the face. Both are manageable — overlock the edges, steam from the back — and for the warmth-per-dollar it is the right cloth.
Three things that go wrong on a cationic single-sided fleece. Pile: lay one-way and overlock the edges. Two-tone: the heather is a cationic dye effect, available on request, not automatic on a solid shade. Pressing: steam from the back, never a hot shoe on the face.
Send a swatch or pick a shade
Tell us the garment, the shade and the quantity — or take a stock shade and we will send the shade card and a hanger swatch. For a two-tone cationic effect or a made-to-match beige, post or courier a swatch and we come back with a lab dip and a price at your volume.
The warm knits sit next to the Single-Sided Plush Fleece 300 GSM for a heavier option, and the Double-Sided Cationic Fleece 230 GSM for a no-lining cloth. The rest of the range is on the fabrics page.
